Just a quick post to show off the exquisite buds of my 'Crested Damask', released in limited quantities a few years ago, Breeding is 'Marbree' X 'Crested Jewel'. This has some of the best sepals of all the crested hybrids I know. I haven't tried its pollen on anything yet, perhaps I should?

It's funny because I was just looking at Crested Damask, among others, to see if they had pollen and I was happy to see that Crested Damask does. Didn't see any on anthers on Allegra, though. I'm trying to think what to use Crested Damask on. Both roses are beautiful and extremely winter hardy here in Michigan.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon,
ReplyDeleteYes, Crested Damask produces plenty of pollen, but I never explored using it, simply because I assumed none of the next generation of offspring would be remontant. The Damask remontancy does NOT appear to follow through to its progeny, possibly because some of the remontant Damasks are repeating sports of non-remontants. In that case, the remontancy is probably not passed on by sexual reproduction.
However, that doesn't mean that you shouldn't try working Crested Damask pollen on something. You might be pleasantly surprised.
