Rosy Purple, by Lens
Last year I made one final attempt with Lens's 'Rosy Purple' (exceptionally good rose, disease free without chemical intervention) and crossed it with 'Vineyard Song' and 'Violette'. Both crosses yielded some fine seedlings, but the 'Violette' cross did better. This is one of the nicest ones. I can only guess whether this will become a climber or remain a shrubby Polyantha type shrub. I rather hope it is the former. It has a pleasant Musk fragrance, no sweetness to it, but rather "herbal".
Interesting rose! How true is the photo color to the color of the flower?
ReplyDeleteActually, thats mighty accurate. I always do some color adjusting for accuracy (on my calibrated Mac monitor) to get it as right as possible.
ReplyDeleteVery cheerful looking. I have a special place in my heart for polyanthus. I like them a hell of a lot better than most modern roses. I guess that is why I like miniatures, because at least in my eyes many are really polyanthus going by a different name.
ReplyDeleteGive me a Poly like this over a modern HT anyday!
ReplyDeleteGive me a kick in the pants over a modern HT any day LOL (well... not realy a fair comment... I do like some more than a kick in the pants ;) ).
ReplyDeleteLovely seedling... looks a lot like a redder version of 'Baby Faraux'... maybe a little like 'Sweet Chariot' only not as full (though these are the first flowers aren't they?). My OP 'BF' seedlings are up now too... I hope they turn out a like this as well. I just love the 'sunny spot look' the pollen loaded anters creates... it just screams 'I'm fertile... I want to be pollinated' to me :) It doesn't look like it inherited the one-day-wonder anthers from the multiflora background either.
